Quizzes are incredibly popular and are known to draw crowds to otherwise deserted establishments. They're also great fun to play at home with your friends and family, and this is why the market is now flooded with quiz packs and CD editions that are available from book and games stores. If you're interested in setting up your own quiz - either because you are the landlord of a pub or entertainment establishment, or simply because you'd like to make your home-quizzes more regulated - there are a few easy steps to follow.
The first thing to establish is the type of quiz you're going to run. Paper-based question and answer rounds which each team can collaborate on are the easiest to run, with the quiz leagues being more intensive and in need of strict moderation. If you decide upon the basic team-answered quiz, decide how many rounds you will have, and whether you will provide printed answer sheets or simply accept answers on otherwise blank sheets of paper. You will also have to decide what themes your rounds will have - most stick to 'General Knowledge', 'Sports', 'Current Events', and 'Entertainment'. Some quizzes have picture rounds, in which the teams will have to identify the personality or item contained in the photo. Other quizzes have music rounds, where the teams are asked to identify short excerpts of songs (either by title or performer). You will also have to decide on whether the quiz is free (and without prizes), whether it will cost an entry fee (and will have prizes), and whether the scores will accumulate over the weeks the quiz is played. Make sure you are clear on the rules and about policies regarding cheating, and you should be well on your way to success.
